Augmentor Agent for Mac
Version 0.2.13 · Browser reliability preview · 523 MB · Apple silicon (M1 or later) · macOS 14 or later · early preview
This preview is not signed with an Apple Developer ID or notarized by Apple. macOS requires your explicit approval on first launch. Automatic updates are not available yet. Use your own model account or local model server; model usage may have a cost.
Install and connect
- Drag Augmentor Agent Desktop into Applications. Eject the disk image, then open Augmentor from Applications. Keep just this one installed copy.
- If macOS blocks it, dismiss the alert and open System Settings → Privacy & Security. Find Augmentor and choose Open Anyway, then confirm Open. Approve only the copy you downloaded from augmentoragent.com. Apple’s instructions.
- In Agent setup, click Install and start DSH. No server address or model key is needed for this step. DSH runs in the background and starts when you sign in.
- Click Open DSH in browser. In DSH, choose Settings → Models to add your provider or local model. If an initial prompt asks for a DeepSeek key, choose Configure later to see other providers. Return to Augmentor and click Check connection.
- Send a short message. Your conversation and settings stay in your own account. Clicking the app icon opens the window; Fn + Space shows or hides it. Change the shortcut in Settings if your keyboard reserves it.
DSH, the required plugins, Python and Node are included. You do not need to install them separately. Existing DSH users can choose Use existing DSH. Your API key is kept in an owner-only local configuration file; this preview does not use Keychain. No model subscription or model weights are included.
Dictate into other applications
Open Settings → System dictation · Powered by Handy, turn it on, choose a transcription model and review its terms before downloading it. Hold Ctrl + Space while speaking and release to insert the transcription into the focused application. Escape or × cancels. Change the shortcut, microphone or activation mode in the same settings, or turn dictation off. The recording pill follows your Augmentor colours and animated circle; no separate Handy installation or tray is needed.
Approve microphone and Accessibility permission when macOS requests them. Physical recording, permission dialogs and typing need acceptance on your Mac.
Make it comfortable
Choose ⋯ → Colors & skins → App size to resize text, icons and spacing from 75% to 150%. The change is immediate and saved automatically. Replies continue while you adjust it. In Settings you can also assign a second shortcut for another independent conversation.
Add the browser extension
- In Augmentor’s three-dot menu, choose Set up browser extension. Choose your installed Chromium-based browser (including Comet), or click Choose another browser app… to select it from Applications. Then click Prepare browser extension.
- Click Copy extension folder address, then Open browser Extensions page.
- Turn on Developer mode, click Load unpacked, then press Shift + Command + G in the folder chooser. Paste the copied address and select the folder.
- Pin Augmentor in the browser toolbar and open its side panel. It uses the model connection you configured in the desktop app.
Keep the prepared extension folder in Application Support. Chrome Web Store installation is not available for this preview. Company-managed Macs or browsers may prevent manual approval or unpacked extensions.
Preview limits
This release focuses on desktop chat and the matching browser companion. Speech engines and local memory servers need separate configuration. Computer control needs macOS privacy permissions. End-to-end microphone, desktop-control permissions and every model provider have not been qualified. Provider availability and sign-in options depend on DSH; not every provider or authentication method has been qualified.
Read the release record for the exact test scope. Update and removal instructions follow below. Do not drag a replacement over the app while Augmentor or its browser companion is working. There is no automatic update service in this preview.
Source and licenses
Augmentor uses dynamically loaded Qt and PySide under LGPL terms. You may replace those libraries and debug your modifications. Third-party components retain their own licenses. See About & licenses in the app and the release’s source archives and notices.
Updates and removal
This preview has no automatic updater. Do not overwrite a running installation. A coordinated update flow is still being prepared. Your settings and conversations are stored separately in your account’s Library/Application Support/Augmentor folder.
To stop using the preview, remove Augmentor from your browser’s Extensions page and quit Augmentor. Disable its background items in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions before moving the app to Trash. Log out and back in to finish stopping its background processes. Keep Application Support data if you want to return later. This preview does not yet offer complete removal of its saved settings and registration files.
Need help?
If the Open Anyway option is unavailable, your organization may manage the Mac. Ask its administrator; do not disable macOS security globally. If model setup fails, check your provider’s API address, model ID and key, then retry. Report an issue without posting API keys or private conversations.
